St Loge Wood, paint, glass eyes, pebbles, string, 2001 My year as Artist-in-Residence at Gloucester Cathedral glows in my memory as having been an enriching period in which seeds were sown for future development. One of the best things I can think of now is the people I met; through them and my reading, becoming aware that both art and religion exist in a creative arena in which fundamental questions about our existence can be taken on. In particular, my work has been influenced by the idea of the mythical saint, part history, part fiction; this summer I shall be working as Artist-in-Residence on Bardsey Island which has the reputation of being 'the island of a thousand saints'. Susan Adams studied at Maidstone College of Art (1985-6); Norwich School of Art (1986-9); Slade School of Art (1990-2) and Middlesex University (1998-2000). Susan was a Fine Art Fellow at Cheltenham (CGCHE) in1992-3 and has been Artistin-Residence at ArtsAcre, Calcutta, India (1994); Anderson Ranch Arts Center, Colorado, USA (1994-5); and at Oriel Mostyn, Llandudno (2002). Susan is currently curating an exhibition, Something Funny in the Woodshed at Aberystwyth Art Centre. Solo exhibitions include Proposals for Saints at Gloucester City Museum (1997); EICH, Hull (1998) and Glynn Vivian, Swansea (1999); Theatre of Love, Y Bont Gallery Glamorgan (1995). 'And in the Morning' was screened at Exploding Cinema, London (2000). Group exhibitions include Reflections of Holiness, St Mary Woolnoth, London (2002); Wales: Unauthorised Versions, Zagreb (2001); Candid Gallery London (2000, 1999); Gallery Fresh, London (1998); Whitechapel/East London Open Studios, London (1994); The Arthur Anderson Art Award Exhibition, London (1993); Fine Art Fellows, Pittville Gallery, Cheltenham (1993); Flowers East, London (1992); Royal Over Seas League, London (1991); East West Gallery, London (1991). Susan has been represented by Pratt Contemporary Art at various Print Fairs and Shows which include The Armory, New York (1997,1995); Royal Academy of Art, London (1996); SAGA, FIAC, Paris, France (1994) and Concourse Gallery, Barbican, London (1994,1993). |
