The south west corner of the close is called College Yard and in past times did not possess the quiet and secluded atmosphere it enjoys today. For then it was the site of the refuse pit, being conveniently near the canons' stables.
However, in medieval times there was probably a guest house to the monastery situated here, and indeed a timber framed building dating from the 15th century still stands. It contains a double bay hall with an undercroft. |
