1941 - 2004 Dave Norton was a brilliant student in the fifties at Gloucester School of Art. Throughout his life he painted and sketched the life of the city but he hardly ever sold or exhibited his work. When he died - tragically early - his house was crammed with extraordinary pictures that reflect the city's public faces and lower depths. Vanished buildings, street scenes and personal revelations are depicted in very different styles, showing how the city has changed over five decades. There are views of the long-demolished power station on Castlemeads, a string of vanished buildings along Gloucester Quay and street scenes from old Clapham. His work was finally exhibited at the Guildhall in March 2005.
