John was born in London, but has been for many years a lecturer in Time-Based media at the University of Gloucestershire. His installations have travelled the world.
'The structures are determined with reference to fibonnaci numerical progressions and make reference to the shapes and relationships that are present in natural phenomena and patterns of growth. The works are single colour (they do not flash or twinkle) and this preserves their spacial integrity, whilst also helping to distance them from their more usual purpose. Works are produced that challenge our preconceptions and propose alternative experience of location. Standing amongst or passing through the pieces, enveloped by the lights, there is a strong sense of spatial ambiguity, and this acts as a catalyst to a range of possible readings that have a more personal dimension.'
