Empire

Parkend EmpireThe Empire was Gloucester's suburban cinema, a mile from the city centre in Parkend Road. It opened in 1914 with 350 seats and had its own orchestra. In time sound equipment was installed, but CinemaScope never was and this, together with the increasing popularity of television, led to its closure in 1957 (last films 'Tarzan's Savage Fury' and 'The Private Wore Skirts').

It was sold to the Elim Pentecostal church and is still their place of worship.
