Docks Hoardings Lights

light

The redevelopment of the Docks has created the opportunity for many new works of art. The first of these has turned the hoardings around the Barge Arm into a temporary lighting sculpture. Artist Andrew Stonyer has taken the house colours of developers Crest Nicholson and used them to create a stylised vision of red warehouses and blue water pierced with coloured squares of light which go on and off in sequence. The intensity and periodicity of the light is different depending on whether it is blue or red. If it is blue, the intention is to provide subtly changing patterns indicative of ripples and reflections on the water. If it is red, the changes are more abrupt, suggesting the daily cycle of the sun as it creates deep shade and dazzling light on different walls of the buildings. Barge Arm Lights

The effect is doubled on the waters of the barge arm, where temporary bridge allows spectators a perfect view of the changing reflections.
