In the dark days before the opening of the Guildhall Arts Centre the Film Society used to meet at the City Museum's Wheatstone Hall. Members enjoyed tea and biscuits around the Roman exhibits and a raffle at the interval while the reels were changed on the 16mm projector. Now the society meets in the (slightly) greater comfort of the Guildhall's cinema, but its commitment to showing a mix of classic movies and arthouse gems from all over the world remains unchanged. Frank Colls of the Film Society writes: In October 2005 the Guildhall will welcome back Gloucester Film Society for its 53rd Season . We are delighted to announce that local actor, writer and film star Simon Pegg has agreed to be our new President. The programme brings you films from around the world with a few of the great classics, some lesser known gems, some recent successes, and one or two unusual titles you're unlikely to see anywhere else. Don't let 'film society' put you off, we just like to see interesting films in like-minded company. We don't have deep discussions, in fact there's no need to participate in any other way beyond enjoying good films in a friendly surroundings. Shows are on Tuesday evenings twice a month. They are open to all but by joining you get a very good discount on the season of 12 shows and a reduced admission price to all the Guildhall's films. Contact Frank (Glos 538366) or Juliet (Glos 540115) to find out more. |
