Severn Athletics Club of Gloucester was founded in 1994. It competes in Division One of the Birmingham Cross-Country League and Division One of the Midlands Athletics League. Their young athletes compete in the Avon League. The club promotes more open track and field meetings, road races and open cross-country events than any club in the United Kingdom.
During the winter it organises circuit training and indoor athletics practice at Central Technology College, Cotteswold Road on Mondays and Thursdays 6.45 - 8.00pm. Distance running sessions are held from various venues in and around the city. In winter the principal session is an interval one at the Black Bridge track, Crypt School on Mondays at 6.30pm. All athletes, particularly newcomers, are welcome. The club admits members from secondary school age. During the summer it organises junior athletic fun sessions for children aged 5 - 11 at which the children can test themselves at running, jumping and throwing. These sessions are held at venues across the city. The club has twelve qualified coaches and is able to set training schedules for individuals if requested. It would welcome help from adults to officiate at their events, particularly qualified athletics officials. The club has an equal opportunities policy and all member aged 18 and over are required to read the UK Athletics and Gloucester City Council policies on child protection. They are also expected to attend courses on child protection when these are organised.
