Ukrainian Club

In the aftermath of the Second World War refugees from the Ukraine were sent to a resettlement camp at Elmbridge on the edge of the city. By 1953 enough people had settled in Gloucester to form a branch of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain.

Exterior of the Ukrainian Club

The Ukrainian Club Dnipro was opened in 1963, each family pledging money towards the building, and since then it has been a focus for Gloucester Ukrainians, though it welcomes everybody to its bar, skittle alley and function room. The Mndriwka dance troupe and the ladies' choir are based there, it runs a day centre for elderly members of the community and everyone gathers there for Ukrainian festivals and celebrations.
