The company joined the Hawker Siddeley Group in 1934 and soon extended its Hucclecote works for quantity production of its fighters the GAUNTLET (1929-37) and the GLADIATOR (1934-39). With the outbreak of the Second World War its work again increased enormously. Employing 14,000 men and women in its Hucclecote works, an adjacent 'shadow factory' and 38 other factories all over Gloucestershire it produced 2750 Hawker Hurricanes and 3330 Hawker Typhoons.
