Gloucester, in common with other Cities, has had to adapt rapidly to social and technological change in the last few decades. The old manufacturing industries based around engineering and the timber trades and sited around the Canal and Railways have been largely swept away. In their place have come businesses based on commerce, new technologies, retailing and leisure sited near new road systems with fast motorway links.
What are these new businesses? Has there been any carry over of skills from the past? How do people view the work they do?

It is hoped to answer some of these questions in this section as it develops. As a start a selection of Gloucester's modern businesses are pictured here.
