Pin Making

Pin making in Gloucester embraced both the smallest and the biggest. The biggest industry in Gloucester around 1800 was making the smallest item- a pin.

Pin Making Evidence at Gloucester Folk Museum

The hand made pin was a luxury item exported around the World. Men, women and children all over the city working in dirty cramped and dangerous little workshops all over the city made the pins. In the Folk Museum buildings can be seen the remains of one of these pin 'factories and brass pins are still found underneath the floorboards.
