Age: 66 Originally from Ireland, came to Britain in 1958, moving to Gloucester only 3 years ago. Her unusual method for choosing this city as her new home was asking God for help and opening her 'Touring Britain' book, whereupon the page fell open on Gloucester! Attracted by the 'old with the new' aspect of the city, Cathy came to visit, liked what she saw and eventually bought a house in the Saintbridge area. Cathy trained as a nurse but gave this up after her marriage, later taking up office work. More recently , she has trained as a spiritual healer and practices once a week at the Podsmead Neighbourhood Project, thoroughly enjoying it and giving her a sense of putting something back into the community. Because Cathy doesn't drive, she relies on public transport to get around and feels aggrieved the local council doesn't provide free travel for pensioners. As a result she is limited to around 1 weekly trip into the city centre and special trips to Cheltenham are costly. Cathy would dearly like to visit more people and explore more of Gloucestershire but feels restricted due to the expense this entails. Despite this, Cathy likes living in Gloucester and feels she was guided here; although she can't pin-point the reason, she feels content here, more so than in any other place she has lived in.
