Scientist, Inventor and Genius

Born in Barnwood, Charles helped his father in his Westgate Street music shop before moving to London. He was only 16 when he had his first invention, a new kind of flute.

By working on lots of projects at the same time, he made many discoveries and inventions. As well as his famous inventions he also measured the speed of electricity, invented a device for seeing pictures in 3D and harp that played itself, classified every sound that can be made, and along the way developed typewriters, and electromagnetic clocks.
